Important: Every family dispute has its own history. This article gives general preparation points and does not replace tailored legal advice.

Arrange the relationship record

Marriage documents, identity papers, proof of residence and a simple timeline of the relationship are a good starting point. Note major events such as separation, reconciliation efforts, previous complaints and any existing court proceedings.

Collect financial material

Income documents, salary slips, business records, bank statements, household expense summaries and documents relating to shared assets or liabilities often become important in maintenance or settlement discussions.

Prepare child-related records where relevant

School records, medical papers, expense details, proof of caregiving responsibilities and previous arrangements regarding custody or visitation can help explain what interim and long-term relief may be necessary.

Keep prior complaints and orders ready

Copies of FIRs, complaints, protection orders, mediation records or earlier family-court orders should be arranged by date. These documents often shape both the strategy and the immediate relief sought.
