Build the chain of title first

Sale deeds, gift deeds, wills, release deeds, partition deeds, family settlements and any other transfer documents should be arranged in sequence. Missing links in title often explain why the dispute has arisen.

Add revenue and municipal records

Mutation papers, tax receipts, khasra or khatauni extracts where relevant, municipal records, sanctioned maps and possession-related utility papers can help confirm how the property has been recorded and used over time.

Document possession and site history

Photographs, site plans, boundary descriptions, possession receipts, rent papers or local correspondence may help explain the actual use of the property. In many disputes, possession history becomes as important as title documents.

Keep prior notices and pending cases together

Legal notices, police complaints, revenue objections, civil pleadings and orders from earlier proceedings should be placed in date order. A clean chronology often reveals which issue needs immediate legal attention.
